November 06, 2009 | Screencrave.comRobert Pattinson Goes Native for Unbound Captives
...Pattinson told inquiring minds about his upcoming feature entitled, Unbound Captives. It’s a film that’s completely different from anything else you’ve seen him in so take your visions of Cedric Diggory and Edward Cullen and chuck them out the window. I’m playing a kid who’s kidnapped by Comanches when he was 4 years old and brought up by them. My mother spends her entire time trying to find me and my sister, and when she finds us we can’t remember who she is or remember anything about the Western culture. I speak Comanche the whole movie so that will be really different from Edward [laughs]. Ok, Pattinson may have gained a little respect from me for taking on another language for the movie. In the film he’ll star opposite Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman, so this will be a stark contrast to anything he’s ever done in Twilight. Therefore, we had to ask if he took on the role because it was so different from playing Mr. Cullen. No, I actually signed onto that after I had done Twilight in the summer just a couple of months after I finished, so it was really before anything had happened. I didn’t really think about it, it was just a cool script. It reminded me in a lot of ways of Giant, and that’s one of my favorite movies, so I think that’s why I responded to it...

Robert Pattinson and Hugh Jackman Have a Karaoke Competition:
Actor Hugh Jackman's penchant for singing and dancing is well known, as is the musical side of Robert Pattinson, who recorded tracks for the Twilight and New Moon soundtracks. But singing karaoke ... to ABBA? According to what Pattinson told the Sydney Morning Herald, that's exactly what the two actors did to bond in anticipation of starring together in actress Madeleine Stowe's directorial debut, Unbound Captives. We met up in Japan and we went karaoke singing. We were singing ABBA songs, it was pretty funny. It was sort of an ABBA song sing-off, you know, last man standing. So who won the competition, Edward Cullen or Wolverine? Apparently, claws beat fangs when it comes to Swedish pop. I think [Hugh] won, only because he can drink more than me and still sing in tune. He's a cool guy and I'm really looking forward to that film. Stowe also wrote the screenplay for Unbound Captives, which is expected to begin filming before the end of the year. Rachel Weisz and Garret Dillahunt also star.

Garrett Dillahunt has been cast to play Jack Dearborn.
Okay, the film news, finally. Garret has several projects lined up, two of them in the very near future. First up is One Night Only, a short film with Kristen Wiig, that starts shooting one of these days in New York. The mystery project, Oliver Sherman, is a psychological thriller written by Ryan Redford that goes into production in September in Toronto. . Garret will play Oliver Sherman, a “damaged soldier who seeks out an old platoon buddy and his wife and tries to put some demons to rest.” Molly Parker will also star. The third film, still a few months away, is Unbound Captives, a western drama/romance/epic set in the 1860s, written by Madeleine Stowe, who is also attached to direct it. The film is expected to start shooting toward the end of the year on locations in New Zealand and New Mexico. The story follows a woman named May (Rachel Weisz), whose two children are kidnapped and husband killed by the Comanche. She is rescued by a frontiersman, Tom Dearborn (Hugh Jackman), who later helps her search for the kids. Garret will play Jackman’s brother Jack and Robert Pattinson (Little Ashes, Twilight) has been cast as May’s son Phineas. John Toll (Braveheart, The Thin Red Line) will be the cinematographer. Producer Ashok Amritraj recently told the Deccan Herald that they are targeting an early 2011 release date.

Hugh Jackman, Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz will star in the period drama "Unbound Captives", with Madeliene Stowe making her directorial debut from a script she wrote. Gill Netter and Grant Hill will produce with Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment. They are eyeing a year-end production start.Though Stowe's a newcomer behind the camera, getting the job and landing that cast is a payoff for her risky decision to turn down millions of dollars for the script in 1993. Under psuedoname OC Humphrey, Stowe teamed with her husband, actor Brian Benben, to write "Unbound Captives" as a star vehicle for herself. She would have played a woman (now to be played by Weisz) whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is rescued by a frontiersman, to be played by Jackman. Pattinson will play the son.Fox offered Stowe $3 million, and later $5 million for her script with Ridley Scott poised to direct and Russell Crowe to star. She turned down what was the highest sums offered a first time scribe because there was no promise she'd be anything more than the screenwriter.Stowe, who has never publicly spoken about her decision, said she can still remember the surreal moment of turning down all that money over the phone while staring in disbelief at her husband."There was never a moment hesitation on my part, but it felt unreal, and I can remember my husband putting a finger across his neck to signal not to take the offer", Stowe said. "There are moments in life where you need to follow your heart. The script remained my singular focus, but directing it myself wasn't something I ever dreamed of".The idea came from Netter as she spent years honing the script and visualizing every scene."Gill made me realize it when he said there isn't anyone who's going to make the movie you want to make", said Stowe, who then faced the painful task of of finding an actress for a role that was once worth $5 million to her. "I saw three actresses, and knew after meeting with Rachel that she was the person I wanted to hand this role to", she said. "Robert [Pattinson] said yes last fall, before everything broke with 'Twilight'. Hugh [Jackman] said yes two weeks ago." Amritraj sparked to the idea of Stowe directing; she'll be helped by an experienced cinematographer in John Toll, who shot epics, "Braveheart" and "The Last Samurai". Hyde Park Intl. will sell offshore territories at Cannes, and Endeavor Independent, which packaged the pic, will sell North American distribution rights. Jackman, fresh from "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", is formulating a sequel to that film for Fox. Weisz next stars in the Peter Jackson directed film "The Lovely Bones" for Paramount, and Pattinson is reprising his role as Edward in the "Twilight" saga series.
